Attitude to risk
As an investor, your attitude to risk plays a major role in your investment decisions and you need to discuss it with your independent financial adviser.
At Kellands Bristol, we look to help bring some objectivity to the proceedings by using our attitude to risk questionnaire. This provides a useful starting point as it helps you to think clearly about your attitude to risk and leads to a more meaningful discussion with your Kellands financial adviser.
Why not try our attitude to risk survey now? The results can be surprising and can often highlight gaps between your actual and your perceived risk tolerance. It can also show if your current asset allocation is out of line with your actual risk tolerance.
If you are investing as a couple, both of you should complete the attitude to risk questionnaire because it may highlight differences in attitudes between you that need consideration.
Of course, attitude to risk questionnaire (pdf) is only the starting point. Risk attitude is more about your psychology than your financial circumstances. For example, you may be prepared to take risks but not be in a financial position to do so. So risk capacity and the ability to absorb losses is a major factor to be considered.
Risk perception (your understanding of risk) and risk required (the income on investment that you need) are further factors.
Your timescale is also key. If you are approaching retirement, you may wish to look for safer investment options. However, if you are investing for a period of 10 to 20 years, the chances of a loss in equities are small and the returns greater, so carrying far less risk.
To discuss your investment portfolio and your attitude to risk, talk to a Kellands financial adviser today.
